About Us

The History of
First Freedom Baptist Church

First Freedom Baptist Church, which was founded as Brimfield Gospel Tabernacle, upon its opening on November 20, 1960, with God's direction and leadership through Reverend B.F. Miller, is the name of our church home.  The church began with 20 members and an offering of $30.  Those first few services were held in an old service station on the corner of Sandy Lake Road and Route 18.

In the spring of 1961, ground was broken where our present building is; and the first structure was built, a 40 x 80 building.  The building was finished and dedicated to the Lord on October 1, 1961.  A year later, in 1962, a Sunday school building was added and dedicated as well.

Two years later, in 1963, the present sanctuary was constructed.  It was then dedicated two years later by Reverend Harold Henninger, of the Canton Baptist Temple, Canton, Ohio.

Freedom Baptist Church was founded in February 1976, with Reverend Robert G. Norris as Pastor.  They held their meetings at Field Junior High School, with 62 members.  In January of 1978, they began to rent a local Methodist church.

Over the years, Brimfield Gospel Tabernacle became First Baptist Church.  This is important to note, for our present name.

On August 12, 1979, First Baptist Church and Freedom Baptist Church merged, thus giving us our present name, FIRST FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH.

First Freedom remains to be the strong tower of doctrine and truth to the lost and weary traveler.  We have a strong heritage to grow and learn from.  May we ALWAYS press on for the prize which is set before us now!

Our Pastor

Our Pastor and teacher since 1996 has been Reverend Dan Alexoff.  Pastor Alexoff is an ordained minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and holds a Bachelor's Degree from Massillon Baptist College, Massillon, Ohio,  He trusted the Lord for his salvation at the age of twelve, and grew up in the area in which he now pastors.

He was married to his wife, Shelly, in the winter of 1989.  They presently have three beautiful daughters: Kaylee, Shawna and Leah.
